Celebrate Unity and Diversity with The Calaboose African American History Museum at a Juneteenth art exhibition and award ceremony for the Dr. Elvin Holt Scholarship for Texas State Students winners!
The artists at Hernandez Elementary spent several weeks looking at the artwork of Alma Thomas and Jean Michel Basquiat, as well as brave quilters that helped free enslaved people on the underground railroad. The 5th Grade looked at artwork by Aaron Douglas and Kehinde Wiley, along with activist movements, for inspiration in their own artwork to honor and celebrate unity and equality on canvases provided by The Calaboose Museum.
4th grade students at Bowie Elementary completed research projects that can be viewed digitally alongside the art showcase, through scannable QR codes.
Come by and experience this partnership firsthand! These kids are amazing!
Thank you to Hernandez Art Teacher, Bridget Jones, and Bowie 4th Grade Teacher, Yvonne Rodriguez, for helping to put together this collaboration to celebrate unity and diversity!
Congratulations to the winners of the Dr. Elvin Holt Scholarship for Texas State Students!
